General Summary This position is the critical link between Unum and the Benefit Counselors who enroll customers, approximately 4,000 annually nationwide, in Unum benefits. The Manager will be responsible for assuring that Unum has a highly qualified pool of Benefit Counselors that support enrollments and provide excellent education to our customers, resulting in strong participation. The Manager will lead the Benefit Counselors in his/her region by developing and executing a plan for: recruitment, coaching and training, performance assessment and management, ongoing communication, loyalty, and retention.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Establish regional recruiting plan to satisfy local needs. - Provide mentorship and training to Benefit Counselors to assure strong participation results - Partner with Regional Enrollment Manager, Enrollment Manager, Market Manager and broker to provide a strong Benefit Counselor pool in the region. Establish relationships with all roles to gather feedback and input on training & recruiting. - Establish personalized training plans for each Benefit Counselor in regional pool. Assess Benefit Counselors skills individually and determine plan as appropriate. Hold local training and assume responsibility for an ongoing training schedule for local Benefit Counselor pool. - Monitor and track performance of regional Benefit Counselor pool to assure customer needs and sales targets are met. (Close ratio, days worked, utilization rates and skill mastery) Attend local enrollments to observe and mentor Benefit Counselors. - Manage loyalty and retention programs for regional Benefit Counselor pool. - Manage regional budget for training and loyalty programs. Communicate all product/process changes and updates to Benefit Counselors. - Serve as training liaison to enrollment entities. - Support general enrollment training initiatives on regulatory & compliance. - Oversee and implement creative training strategies to ensure a knowledgeable, sales oriented and customer focused workforce - May perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Significant travel required (50%) for training and local enrollment (as needed) - College degree preferred plus - Insurance worksite experience of 5 to 7 years - Insurance license required - Sales skills - Interest and aptitude in sales coaching and training - Detail oriented, can monitor and measure performance through metrics - Proven ability to make sound business decisions and deliver results - Ability to partner with senior roles: Market Manager, Regional Enrollment Manager and brokers - Thorough knowledge of enrollment process - Creative, flexible and able to think outside the box with the ability to design and conduct training programs - Strong customer orientation skills - Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
