Group Underwriter
This position is responsible for underwriting dental activities and managing the dental products for partners/clients. Responsible for dental underwriting based on dental products, rating, plan analysis and corporate underwriting policies. Providing ongoing dental underwriting workflow for partners/clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Participate in dental underwriting activities to ensure standards for quality and timeliness
2. Determine whether a risk is standard or substandard and recommends acceptance or rejections of substandard risks.
3. Coordinate the dental underwriting and rating process with the companys marketing representatives. Answers questions concerning underwriting decisions on applications.
4. Maintain a productive working environment between underwriting and sales teams promoting dental.
5. Establish and maintain working relationship with underwriting management for partners/clients.
6. Identify formal underwriting workflow with sales force. Perform analysis of group demographics and other measures to determine required premium levels. Review of group characteristics to ensure compliance with corporate underwriting guidelines, recommending exceptions under special circumstances. Prepare exhibits and presentations as required.
7. Provide ongoing consultative services to our partners/clients, as requested, on all new business or renewal quote situations on topics such as: plan design, rate computations and exception considerations when required by competitive situations.
8. Support the formal RFP process through providing questionnaire responses or completion of underwriting-related exhibits.
9. Institutionalize/maintain competitive intelligence for rates, plan designs and producer compensation programs.
10. Develop expertise in the process of experience analysis through working with department management and Dental Underwriting Consultant.
11. Comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, Compliance Program policies and other applicable corporate and departmental policies.
12. Maintain complete confidentiality of company business.
13. Maintain communication with management regarding development within areas of assigned responsibilities and perform special projects as required or requested


Requirements:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor degree.
* 3 years group health and/or dental experience.
* Leadership skills.
* Knowledge of dental products.
* Experience with rating methodologies applicable to group health products.
* Presentational skills.
* Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
* PC skills in Microsoft Word, Access and Excel.

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor degree in math, business, or actuarial science.
