Coding Compliance Coordinator/Coding Educator /Physician BillingTracking Code927-177Job Description Position Summary: To develop curriculum for, coordinate and provide ongoing training and education to providers and ancillary staff on documentation improvement initiatives related to the selection of CPT (especially E/M levels), ICD-9-CM and HCPCS in accordance with Federal, fiscal intermediary and organizational specific guidelines. This position will also develop advanced educational programs to ensure that the department's coders develop and sustain a proficient understanding of all coding regulations and guidelines, coding updates and applicable clinical knowledge (i.e. anatomy and physiology, disease processes, procedures) necessary to be proficient coders.
Essential Job Functions: 1. Develops curriculum and provides coding education and training to Physicians and staff. 2. Serves as a resource for ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding resource to physicians, and ancillary personnel, especially as it relates to Evaluation and Management coding,; support and educate staff on accessing available information for daily coding practice issues. 3. Provides on and off site formal and informal training seminars for coding and compliance Issues. 4. Communicates with Managers and other leadership on update-to-date coding processes which adhere to CMS, IDPA and other governmental guidelines. 5. Provide content expertise on coding products, seminars, and services including: * Educating key staff on new coding systems * Development of Coding articles * Making presentations to Management and support staff as needed * Review of AAP, Coding Alerts, and other governmental newsletters and websites with implementation of new or revised guidelines. 6. Shadows providers (where appropriate) and works individually on coding documentation and templates 7. Keeps informed on coding and documentation guidelines 8. Oversees bi-annual survey with all providers detailing their overall satisfaction of coding education in order to address future needs. 9. Publishes a quarterly newsletter for providers and coding staff regarding coding tips and changes. 10. Assists Compliance Auditors and other compliance team members with developing and maintaining compliance plans and Coding and Compliance Policies and Procedures, as well as developing individualized educational plans to improve coder productivity and accuracy. 11. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others. 12. Requirements
* Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P), Certified Professional Medical Auditors (CPMA) is required. * CPC-H or CCS-H preferred * Bachelor's degree preferred * Five years of ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and Multi-Specialty focused E/M coding in a physician billing based setting required (Pre-employment coding testing is required). * Ability to accurately interpret encounter forms, medical records, physician documentation, lab and operation reports and other documents necessary for accurate billing and coding is required. * Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) with a multi-tiered, multi-disciplinary group are required. * Ability and ease with presenting educational information in a large group setting. * Critical thinking skills and the ability to research topics in order to better understand and explain complex medical coding/billing issues is required. * Knowledge of medical billing, claim processing and/or insurance reimbursement experience preferred * Clinical experience in a hospital or physician's office preferred * Ability to work independently and meet set deadlines and goals are required. * Demonstrates and applies understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and coding classification systems in determining appropriate physician coding. * Ability to use computer software (i.e.: EPIC, HBOC, WORD, EXCEL and PowerPoint). * May be required to drive to Outreach Locations. Must have valid drivers license and automobile.
Working Conditions:
Working environment is a typical office setting with minimal likelihood of occupational exposure to pathogens during the performance of assigned duties.
