ComEd and its nearly 6,000 employees are responsible for maintaining more than 78,000 miles of power lines that make up the electric transmission and distribution system in Northern Illinois. As a Field Engineer/Technician within ComEd, you will play a pivotal role in ¿keeping the lights on¿. The Field Engineer/Technician is called upon to conduct hands-on acceptance and in-service testing of transmission and distribution equipment in either our Testing Group or our Distribution Testing group.
The Field Engineer/Technician maintains a HIGH level of customer service, including working outdoors during non-traditional or extended hours in order to get work completed. Your skills with be challenged and polished as you will be tasked with testing a vast array of equipment, from that which has been in service since the 1940¿s to the newest state of the art equipment.
Overall the highly technical experience gained from the Testing Group and Distribution Testing is both challenging and rewarding providing employees with skill-sets that are highly sought within ComEd and across the industry for opportunities in the testing, engineering, and leadership positions.
Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24/7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies. You are required to pass an EEI Technical Test in order to be considered for this role.
Do you even qualify? - Do you have at least Associates degree in a technical field or equivalent relevant education / experience? - Do you have at least two years of relevant technical experience? - Do you have a good knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline for maintenance, testing, installation or service? - Are you able to read blueprints and schematics and use basic test instruments? - Are you organized and able to speak to every level of an organization? - Do you have a valid driver¿s license?
