Advance Auto Parts Position Description Job Title: Maintenance II (Distribution Center Maintenance Mechanic) Department: Corporate Logistics (Distribution Centers) Reports To: Distribution Center Maintenance Manager and Department Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Grade: 10 Job Code: MNTII Prepared By: Douglas Brake, Director, Facility Engineering - Logistics Prepared Date: November 10, 2009 SUMMARY The Maintenance II must be knowledgeable in most facets of the Maintenance Department. Perform technical maintenance for equipment, machinery, structures, and grounds while maintaining a safe working environment. Assist the Maintenance Dept. Manager in mentoring the Team Members in all aspects of maintenance and qualifying them for the next level in their career. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform technical repairs on equipment under a Maintenance III or Maintenance Dept. Manager. Install and repair electrical apparatus, such as transformers, lights, outlets, circuit breakers, and wiring. Also electrical and electronic components of equipment. Coordinate with the Maintenance Dept. Manager on daily workload. Disassemble, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment. Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment. Perform scheduled and preventive maintenance of equipment, machinery, electrical systems and structures using blueprints, diagrams, manuals and written instructions while adhering to all safety guidelines to ensure equipment is working so that efficient operations are maintained. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair malfunctions promptly, including equipment and machinery malfunctions, using blueprints, schematics, manuals and written instructions. Construct, install, and repair equipment in accordance with manufactures guidelines and repair manual. Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery as required. Repair and maintain the physical structure of the facility. Install, program, or repair automated machinery and equipment such as sortation systems and programmable controllers. Operate a cutting torch and welding equipment. Fabricate and repair counter, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures. Discuss machine operation variations with managers, supervisors, and other team members to diagnose problems and machine repairs. Provide back-up for the battery room attendant in changing batteries, repairing chargers, batteries and transporter, battery testing, and other duties as required in the battery room. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Be available in the work area to assist other mechanics as needed and complete repairs as required. Ensure that work areas are kept clean and safe. Ensure that ALL hazardous material in the Maintenance Department is stored in a Flammable Storage Cabinet at the end of each shift or when not in use. Consistent, reliable attendance Complete any additional duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Complete functional and limited knowledge of: All shop equipment, test equipment, and handpower tools. Conveyor systems, lift equipment, and all other material handling equipment. Building, HVAC, lighting, electrical, and all other related equipment and structures. Security controls and fire protection systems. General knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and procedures including best safety practices. General administrative, organizational, managerial and communication skills. Good analytical ability to gather and interpret information and develop, recommends, and implements solutions. Basic knowledge of blue prints and schematic reading a plus. EDUCATION andor EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent required. Two to three years related experience andor training or some equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of one-year maintenance experience in a distribution center required. WORK SCHEDULE Required, work various shifts, departments and locations, as required. Overtime is required. Weekends are required. Holidays are required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has NO supervisory responsibilities. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Post hire certifications may be required to comply with safety standards as mandated by law to operate machinery or equipment.
