Description:
First-line Supervisor responsible for hourly production/distribution/packaging employees in a designated area(s). Drives implementation and continuous improvement of the Federal-Mogul Production System (FMPS) within designated work area(s); ensures the safe, continuous and efficient production of products that conform to our quality standards; represents area in strategic planning, business analysis and decision-making processes. Serves as an agent of the company, assuring understanding of, and adherence to, company policies and compliance with all regulatory requirements.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions as defined by the ADA, except those that begin with the word 'may'.)

Safety

Responsible for ensuring a healthy and safe work environment. Examples include:

1. Providing safety training and enforcing safety regulations as necessary; assuring that pre-work warm-up exercises are conducted as scheduled; identifying and eliminating work hazards including ergonomic issues and bringing them to the appropriate person for investigation and resolution.

2. Assuring that work unit understands and meets all safety standards and Federal-Mogul policies.

3. Meeting requirements of safety programs. Leads the investigation of safety issues and drives implementation of corrective actions.

Production and Quality

Responsible for driving key performance indicators (KPIs) and the operating performance of work area; setting and meeting goals and priorities; developing measures; monitoring performance and preparing and executing action plans.

Examples include:

1. Driving implementation and continuous improvement of the Federal-Mogul Production System (FMPS) within your work area. Understanding and complying 100% with the requirements of the production boards (film of production). Also, ensuring FMPS communication boards contain updated and accurate information.

2. Proactively addressing daily production challenges in meeting and/or improving performance against KPIs. Performing data analyses (e.g. OAE, scrap pareto, downtime pareto, etc) with various tools, including MS Excel; conducting gap analyses to address negative trends and relationship of respective shift's performance relative to all other shifts. Also, determining and prioritizing operational actions/next steps based on data and trends, and ensuring the timely execution of these actions/steps.

3. Ensure customer satisfaction by producing parts to approved customer requirements and meeting customer delivery dates as defined on purchase orders. In the event of a customer issue, support the customer satisfaction team in permanently correcting the issue through Fast Response and the FM-TiPS methodology.

4. Creating meaningful targets that align with the plant's Top 10 operational goals; specifically, developing a meaningful Top 10 and Top 5 (subject to mid-year review and update) that will be driven within your work area. Developing action plans to address gaps/misses against the Top 10 and Top 5 goals.

5. Leading both Lean manufacturing and industrial housekeeping (e.g., 5S) practices in a work area; identifying and working toward eliminating waste. Driving adherence to Lean principles in day-to-day application - including 7 forms of waste, 5S, kanban, value stream mapping, layout generation relative to the 12 Rules and FMPS, SMED, poke-yoke, heijunka, etc.

6. Leading kaizen activities w/respective team (active participation in/contribution to the plant vision), including time studies. Training/mentoring team leaders to lead their own kaizen activities and promote a culture of continuous improvement within their team(s). Participating in regular gemba walks with value stream manager and team leaders through area(s) of responsibility.

7. Autonomously driving operational process improvements (relative productivity, throughput, safety improvements, etc). Drive problem solving in respective work areas and identifying areas for continuous improvement.

8. Supporting and developing Team Leaders in their roles. Identifying training needs of respective work area's team leaders and team members; and in some instances, facilitating training. Also, developing and routinely following leader standard work (LSW) - with periodic reviews of Team Leaders' LSW.

9. Driving consistent application of plant rules and policies. Also, having a routine willingness to work off-shifts.

Administrative

Serves as communications conduit, assuring that all communications both from management to line employees and from the line employees back to management are transmitted and received; identifies and brings issues and concerns to management to be addressed. Communicates and interprets company administrative policies to workers. Examples include:

1. Interviewing, hiring, and terminating employees.

2. Maintaining a positive work environment.

3. Preparing and/or reviewing all disciplinary actions in the department; resolving employee conflicts; scheduling people/jobs/vacations. (May delegate some routine disciplinary activity such as monitoring attendance, but must prepare all safety-related incident reports and all disciplinary notices.)

4. Ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of time and production records.

5. Evaluating worker performance; identifying training needs and delivering such training where appropriate and assuring that, where practical and appropriate, opportunities are created to meet those needs.

6. Coaching and mentoring employees.

Other tasks and assignments that are consistent with knowledge and training.
Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1. Technical knowledge of equipment and manufacturing/materials/packaging/distribution and safety processes and procedures that is normally acquired through years of post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible manufacturing-related experience. This includes Lean manufacturing techniques and industrial housekeeping.

2. Proven ability to learn new concepts, processes, etc. quickly and utilize them within a team; ability to manage a large number of non-exempt employees.

3. Organizational abilities necessary to plan and prioritize own work, complete work on schedule and maintain required records and logs. Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

4. Interpersonal skills necessary to conduct business and exchange information (a) with internal and external customers and suppliers, (b) with a diverse employee group and (c) at all levels of the organization.

5. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions using FM-TiPS methodology, or other problem solving tools and methodologies. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and propotions to practical solutions.

6. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Understanding of quality-related measurements and statistical process controls.

7. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence and/or procedure manuals that are accurate, concise and coherent. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers or coworkers.

8. Financial knowledge at a level that indicates a basic understanding of financial statements and budgets and the ability to identify and react to variances, etc.

9. Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, such as OSHA standards and TS16949/ISO-14001 policies and procedures. Able to access QMS documents, EHSMS standard procedures, and work instructions; also, be able to incorporate into daily work activities.

10. Experience in a leadership role; guiding and directing a team towards a common goal.

11. Demonstrated skills in the operation of various computer programs including Oracle, Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (The following statements describe the physical abilities required to perform the essential job functions, although exceptions may be made to these requirements based on the principle of reasonable accommodation.)

1. Ability to walk and move about, stoop and bend, and climb (ascend and descend) ladders.

2. Ability to stand for several consecutive hours.

3. Ability to reach and grab with arms and hands, and manual dexterity to operate machines with precision.

4. Normal or corrected vision necessary to read directions, closely examine parts, distinguish colors and perceive depth.

5. Normal hearing in order to detect equipment and motor malfunctions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Works in areas that can be uncomfortable due to noise, odors, and temperature extremes.

2. Works regularly with machines where carelessness could result in cuts, bruises, burns or muscle pulls. Serious injuries can be avoided if established safety precautions are followed.
