Regional Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) Leader - Chicago, IL

The Regional HS&E Leader is responsible and accountable for driving health, safety and environmental excellence and compliance across multiple sites within the greater Chicago area. This position will support three facilities including the UOP headquarters (including a large R&D center) in Des Plaines, a light manufacturing facility also in Des Plaines and a R&D and manufacturing location in Riverside/McCook, Illinois.

Key Responsibilities:
Manage a team of experienced HS&E professionals to:
· Lead and provide expert hands-on technical involvement on issues, programs, and processes involving compliance with HS&E standards and policies and interpretation of local and national HS&E requirements, permits and regulations · Help develop and manage SM-wide safety programs such as electrical safety, observations, incident investigations, contractor safety, and new hire orientation and work with regional sites to implement these programs · Share best practices across sites to ensure continuous learning and improvement and to drive productivity · Accountable for working directly with the sites in the region to fully implement required elements of the Honeywell/SM HSE Management System, RC 14001, and HOS-related activities related to safety programs · Participate in Honeywell Operating System activities at the various sites on a regular basis, including tier meetings, floor visits, rapid problem solving, and continuous improvement discussions · Integrate HS&E with the Honeywell Operating System · Work with the sites to develop and encourage broad employee engagement · Accountable for conducting periodic reviews and assessments of regional sites to assess status of cultural change. Where there are gaps, work closely with the right resources within the plants to educate, coach, and take action to help close those gaps · Provide functional input to sites in the region for development of the site strategic plan, capital plan, and annual operating plan as they relate to HS&E · Participate in significant safety incident investigations and root cause analyses Work with sites on specific HS&E concerns and issues, providing technical input where needed · Participate in planned agency visits · Work directly with sites to help prepare for audits and inspections · Develop standard training materials to be used across the sites, provide train-the-trainer education to ensure site resources are prepared to deliver training, and then assess effectiveness of the training with site visits and time on the plant floor with employees recently trained · Accountable for reviewing, interpreting and communicating new Honeywell Corporate and SM HS&E procedures, legal and other requirements to the appropriate members of regional site leadership and functional resources. This work will be done in partnership with HS&E work teams to ensure consistent interpretation and implementation across sites.
Basic Qualifications:
. Bachelor's degree in health, safety, environment, business or related field. . Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in a health, safety and environmental (HSE) role
Preferred Qualifications:
. Preference will be given to candidates with experience managing a HS&E program in a chemical research and development or petrochem environment . Thorough understanding of US occupational health, safety and environmental laws and regulations is essential . Knowledge of and direct experience in Health, Safety and Environment auditing, management systems, Responsible Care® and ISO 14001 is also a plus . Advanced degree a plus . CSP Certification strongly preferred . Ergonomic knowledge . Six Sigma / Lean certification is desired . Able to assess strengths and opportunities in the essential aspects of HS&E excellence and help organization improve through training and motivation . Highly motivated, energetic, self-directed individual with good analytical and problem-solving skills . Mature judgment and decision-making ability, with strategic and tactical Health, Safety and Environment experience . Strong computer, project management, and organizational skills required
