Registry Emergency Room Technician Facility: Saint Joseph Hospital, Chicago, IL Department: Emergency Department Schedule: Registry Shift: 12 Hr. Shifts Hours: 7-7 Job Details: The Emergency Department Technician under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse carries out all assignments in the provision of patient care, as delegated by the registered nurse. All duties are carried out in accordance with established policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides direct technical aspects of patient care, as assigned by RN: a. Assists patients to dress and undress. b. Obtains and records vital signs. c. Places patient on EKG monitor, observes and reports any rhythm changes. d. Performs 12 lead EKG's under the supervision of the registered nurse. e. Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining blood specimens. f. Assists in application of restraints and monitoring patient's safety. g. Assists patients with bedpans and urinals. h. Assists with splint and mold applications and crutches. i. Assists in code situations as needed. j. Obtain specimens, as indicated. k. Inserts foley catheters, as indicated. l. Cleans wounds and assists with minor wound care procedures under the direction of a physician or RN. Applies dressings. m. Discontinues peripheral intravenous lines aseptically. 2. Transports non-monitored patients to and from the Emergency Department utilizing wheelchair or stretcher. 3. Observes patients while performing delegated tasks and reports any change in patient's condition to the RN. 4. Assists in stocking unit, maintaining equipment, empting dirty linen hampers, and ordering supplies. 5. Assists in cleaning rooms after patients have been discharged. Removes and disposes of used supplies and makes up carts for new patients. Requirements: * High School Diploma or Equivalent * One year experience working in healthcare * Certified Nursing Assistant,or Illinois EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician Basic License required
