Job Description Discover Financial Services (DFS) is a direct banking and payment services company with one of the most recognized brands in U.S. The company has an exciting opportunity for a counterparty credit risk expert to join its expanding Corporate Risk Management department. This person will play a key role in strengthening the Counterparty Credit teams analytic capabilities, and will help develop and enhance enterprise-wide counterparty credit risk management criteria and processes. This individual will work closely with DFS Treasury department and other business units across the company.
Responsibilities: . Perform extensive credit analysis and maintain analytic responsibility for a portfolio of complex US and foreign financial services organizations. Prepare counterparty credit reviews, assign internal ratings, recommend credit limits and monitor exposure, address over-limit or other "red flag" situations, address documentation and other risk mitigation issues as needed, and maintain a thorough level of ongoing diligence. Proactively monitor industry trends and company developments to ensure appropriateness of risk limits, and recommend changes as necessary.
. Play a major role in the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide credit risk management framework. Work closely with the teams senior analysts and Director to enhance departmental policies, operating guidelines, and analytical criteria relating to the measurement, monitoring and control of counterparty risk. Collaborate with Treasury and other business units to improve the robustness of counterparty risk management practices, due diligence, and compliance processes.
. Assist in the preparation of detailed management reports for internal risk committees and regulators.
. Provide "thought leadership" on key topics, and assist with and/or head up special projects
Qualifications . At least five years of experience in a counterparty credit risk analysis role or fixed income research position at a rating agency, financial regulatory organization (e.g. Federal Reserve), Fortune 500 bank, credit card organization, or similar organization, focusing on analyzing financial services organizations such as banks, broker/dealers, insurers and mutual funds. Additional experience with structured products (credit card and/or student loan ABS, MBS/CMOs), sovereign/country risk, and/or knowledge of the mortgage industry/other mortgage-related counterparties, would be helpful.
. Proven credit risk analysis capabilities; strong knowledge of fixed income Treasury and capital market products (debt, repos, derivatives, bank products and structured products) and related documentation.
. Solid understanding of key regulatory and accounting issues.
. Superior analytical and communication capabilities, and demonstrated project management skills working in a dynamic environment.
. Solid academic credentials. MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.
. Plus points for experience in any of the following areas: developing/enhancing counterparty risk reporting systems; credit risk modeling/risk scorecards/benchmarking; corporate (i.e., non-financial services sector) credit analysis; ABCP structures; economic capital models and issues.
